Chiropractic is a system of diagnosis and treatment that recognises the importance of the nervous system in maintaining health. Good health is maintained by a sensible lifestyle of eating healthily, moderate exercise, relaxation and maintaining normal function of the spine. This approach results in the minimum need for drug therapy and surgery. Maintaining normal spinal function is achieved by chiropractic adjustments of the vertebral joints, posture training and exercise. Adjustments can keep the nerve supply to and from the brain to every part of the body from being diminished or too excited. Maintaining the normal movement of the spinal joints (and indeed all the joints) allows them to receive normal lubrication and nutrition and therefore stops them from ‘wearing out’ quicker than they should. Learning how to keep a good posture rather than letting the spine collapse allows us to breath normally and not to ‘lay on’ our internal organs, interfering with the blood flow through them thus affecting their function.
